The competition started with 8 finalists, chosen from our video entries to compete in the 16th annual Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper Contest. In round 1 we were all to wrap the large rubber duck and a boxed game. That is two gifts in just 10 minutes. . . and we were to use the new Scotch Expressions tape to embellish our wraps. I will be honest. . . I was shaking like a leaf and after bumbling through this round found myself very disappointed with my results. But the judges showed me mercy and moved me to round 2. Whew. In round 2 there were only 4 contestants who were picked to move on. We were to wrap the tuba in 12 minutes. I found myself relaxing and really having fun with the tuba. My goal was to use the shape of the tuba as a vase holding a very large tissue flower. The second photo of the tuba was what I prepared for the Fox & Friends morning show the next morning. Only two of us were chosen to advance. Myself and Shelly Dozier-McKee. . . and here is how that last round played for me.
In the final round we had 16 minutes to create something that would win us the prize! I was very excited for the model plane because I had a plan. It was to GO BIG (or go on home without 10K). I used the whole roll of holiday striped wrap to make this giant paper bow, adding height and drama to the low sitting plane. The wing span was a perfect holder for the huge bow and I topped it off the with strands of red berries from our embellishment bag and cut green leaves from crepe ribbon. I was having so much fun that I found myself dancing and singing along to the music. I even finished a few minutes early and found myself very confident with my results. I was in my game! So there you have it, a quick recap of a very exciting morning. I encourage any of you who have a gift for wrapping to enter next year. Here is a link to the contest. Even if you don’t take home the giant check, everyone who is picked to compete is a winner and not only gets an all expense paid trip to NYC but a cash prize as well. See the post below for a short video recap of this competition. Hugs everyone! ~Lia
